Oil tanker seized by Iran in 2023 anchors near UAE coast, our data shows

Iran has freed the Chevron-chartered oil tanker Advantage Sweet after more than a year of detainment, signaling a potential thaw in tensions. Our data shows the Marshall Islands-flagged vessel anchored near the United Arab Emirates port of Khor Fakkan on Monday (15). 

Advantage Sweet tracked via ShipXplorer 

Iran's military seized the Advantage Sweet in April 2023 following an alleged collision with an Iranian boat in the Gulf of Oman. The incident sparked controversy, with Chevron maintaining the seizure was unfounded.

"We are pleased to see the safe release of the vessel and crew," a Chevron spokesperson said in a statement, confirming reports of the release on July 10th. While details surrounding the release remain unclear, the development marks a welcome resolution for Chevron and the crew.
