Multiple injuries after ship tips over at Edinburgh dockyard

Thirty-three people have been injured after a 250ft (76m) ship toppled over by high winds at a dry dock in Leith, Edinburgh, last Wednesday, 22 March.

The Scottish ambulance service reported that 21 people were taken to the hospital while 12 were treated and released at the scene. Of those taken to the hospital, 15 were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, four to Western General, and two to Victoria. Pictures on social media showed the vessel leaning at a 45-degree angle.

Paul Allen, the late co-founder of Microsoft, previously purchased The Petrel, but his estate no longer owns it. Met Office data shows that a wind speed of 38mph (61km/h) was recorded in Edinburgh at 8 am on Wednesday, and a gust of 44mph was recorded at 9 am.

"We received a call at 0829 hours today to attend an incident in Leith. We have dispatched five ambulances, an air ambulance, three trauma teams, our special operations team, and three paramedic response units. We transported 15 patients to the hospital, 11 to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, and four to Western General Hospital. A further 10 patients were treated and discharged at the scene." said a Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman.
