MSC World Europa To Operate Its Inaugural Cruise

MSC World Europa (IMO: 9837420), the first of MSC Cruises’ World-class series, is officially entering service this week. After debuting as a hotel ship during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the new MSC Cruises ship kicked off its first cruise on December 20.

World Class MSC ships are with max passenger capacity 6774. Building cost per ship is $1,255 billion. The shipbuilder is Chantiers de l'Atlantique (fka STX France). The shipbuilding order includes 2 initial units, plus 2 optional. Each vessel has Gross Tonnage/volume 153,516, LOA length 323 m (1060 ft), beam/width 41 m (135 ft), height 75 m (245 ft), draft 9 m (30 ft).

The UAE city is serving as a gateway for the LNG-powered ship, which will offer seven-night cruises in the region through the end of March. In addition to Dubai, World Europa's regular week-long itinerary features visits to four other ports in the UAE and Qatar, including Abu Dhabi, Sir Bani Yas and Doha. Starting in April 2023, the 205,700-ton ship will be sailing year-round cruises in the Western Mediterranean.The ship's regular seven-night itinerary includes visits to the Italian ports of Genoa, Naples and Messina, as well as Valletta in Malta, Barcelona in Spain and Marseille in France.

The first in a new series of four ships known as World Class, MSC World Europa was built at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire, France. Now the largest ship in MSC's cruise fleet, the 5,400-guest ship introduced several firsts to the company's fleet, such as its LNG-powered propulsion system. According to information, the cleaner-burning fuel reduces greenhouse emissions by up to 20% and reduces nitrogen oxides by 85%.

On the hotel side, the 333-meter-long ship also offers many new features, including The Venom Drop The Spiral - the longest dry slide at sea, with an 11-deck drop.
