Featured AIS Feeder: Cal Kashevarof - Alaska, USA (SXTRPI000031)
Cal Kashevarof, ShipXplorer AIS Feeder in Adak, Alaska, USA
Cal Kashevarof and his son Keenan Kashevarof have been feeding ADS-B & AIS data to RadarBox and ShipXplorer since June 2022 from Adak and Alaska's capital, Anchorage. "We have another feed in St. George Island, AK PAPB that my cousin Emil Lestenkof maintains for us. With the feeders, we cover a good portion of the State of Alaska.", he comments.

Cal has two stations in Adak about ¼ mile from each other to cover as much ground as possible, surrounded by some rolling hills and mountains in the distance that blocks some traffic in the area. He currently operates an AIS station in Adak and one in St. George Island, Alaska. All of his antennas are mounted at about 50 feet above sea level.

About living in Adak, one of the most isolated areas in the US, Cal says: "I grew up on St. George Island, Alaska, with about 150 people, and the only way on or off was by plane. They are so that I have always been interested in planes. I live in Anchorage, Alaska, but I work in Adak, Alaska, and run the marine & aircraft fuel facility. Knowing where the planes and marine vessels are needed for fueling."

"The weather can turn in an instant out in the Aleutians. If the planes are in range, I can see if they are on approach or diverting if the weather turns. We no longer wait at the airport tarmac, wondering about the plane. Adak is the furthest west city in the United States and one of the most remote. We are the last stop for fuel for jet fuel and marine fuel." Concludes Kashevarof.
Adak, Alaska, USA
Adak, formerly Adak Station, is a city located on Adak Island in the Aleutians West Census Area, Alaska, United States. It is the westernmost city in the United States and the southernmost city in Alaska.
